REGULATE
A podcast for dentists and healthcare professionals who are tired of running on empty
Dentistry was never meant to feel this heavy.
The constant decision-making.
The emotional labour.
The pressure to perform, convert, explain, reassure - all while staying calm, precise, and professional.
Regulate is a podcast about learning how to function and thrive inside a demanding healthcare system without burning out your nervous system in the process.
Hosted by Dr Shahana, Regulate explores the science, psychology, and lived reality of stress in dentistry and healthcare — and how to work with your nervous system, not against it.
What Regulate is about
Regulate is not wellness fluff.
It is not motivation talk.
And it is not about “just being more resilient.”
This podcast is about:
Why healthcare professionals are chronically dysregulated
How stress accumulates silently in clinical work
What regulation actually means (beyond breathing exercises)
How communication, cognition, and nervous system load intersect
Why so many capable clinicians feel exhausted, irritable, or disconnected
How to restore clarity, capacity, and presence — practically and realistically
Each episode connects real clinical experience with evidence-based principles from communication psychology, applied neuroscience, and occupational stress research — explained in clear, human language.
Who this podcast is for
Regulate is for you if you are:
A dentist or healthcare professional feeling mentally overloaded
High-functioning, but constantly tired or tense
Carrying the emotional weight of patients, decisions, and responsibility
Questioning why the profession feels harder than it “should”
Interested in sustainable practice, not just survival
Curious about regulation, stress, and communication — without jargon
Whether you’re early in your career, preparing for ADC, established in practice, or quietly wondering how long you can keep going — Regulate meets you where you are.
What you’ll hear in each episode
Episodes may include:
The hidden sources of stress in dentistry and healthcare
Why doing “everything right” can still lead to burnout
The neuroscience of chronic vigilance and decision fatigue
Communication as a stress amplifier — or a regulator
Emotional regulation in high-stakes consultations
Cultural load, identity, and working in a system not built for you
Practical reframes and tools you can apply immediately
Honest conversations about sustainability, meaning, and longevity
Some episodes are reflective.
Some are educational.
Some are quietly confronting.
All are grounded in reality.
How Regulate connects to the course
The Regulate Podcast sits alongside the Regulate course, expanding on the same principles through conversation, case reflection, and applied discussion.
If the course teaches the framework,
the podcast explores the why, the how, and the lived experience behind it.
You can listen independently — or use the podcast as a companion to deeper learning.
About the host
Dr Shahana is an Australian dentist, implant clinician, educator, and researcher with over 20 years of experience across clinical practice, academia, and professional education.
Her work focuses on healthcare communication, clinician wellbeing, cultural competence, and mentally sustainable practice models. Regulate reflects her belief that stress in dentistry is structural and cumulative, not a personal failure — and that learning to regulate is a professional skill, not a personal weakness.
A quieter promise
Regulate won’t tell you to do more.
It won’t ask you to optimise yourself.
It won’t pretend the system isn’t demanding.
Instead, it offers understanding, language, and tools — so you can work with greater clarity, steadiness, and agency inside the reality of modern healthcare.
